Dina on her paper cuts:

My interest in paper cuts goes back to 2008. From the start I was challenged by the multiple varied possibilities this kind of art offers.

In many of paper cuts shown here I found myself imitating processes of creation, change and disintegration that are all around us. Usually, works were completed with no preliminary sketches, or no more than a few basic outlines. This approach permits forms to emerge in a slow and long-lasting process, in constant dialogue with the whole work as it takes shape.

Paper cuts are created by cutting away with a sharp knife, and, like sculpture in stone and wood, any modification or correction is performed by additional removal of paper. This means that the process is irreversible and there is a constant balancing act between the dangers of disintegrating the work and of increasing its complexity. The hold on of the tension between these two poles during the course of the work, enhances interaction between the spaces and the remaining paper. The repetitions and changes in the resulting shapes are woven together in different rhythms, creating a realm of images and meanings.
